A host of Liverpool FC Academy youngsters recently visited local schools in Kirkby alongside the Business in the Community charity.

Head of education and welfare, Phil Roscoe, was joined by players from the Reds’ U18 side in dropping by the Kirkby C of E Primary School and the Northwood Community Primary School.

Youngsters Bobby Adekanye, Adam Lewis and Conor Masterston stopped by the former, while Rhian Brewster, Liam Coyle and Yan Dhanda visited the latter.

The six members of Neil Critchley’s squad spoke about their own personal experiences of attending school and the importance of getting a good education, before answering questions from pupils.

Masterson said: “It is a real privilege to be invited in to the local schools to talk about our experiences growing up and our different backgrounds when going to schools in different countries.”

Brewster added: “The club’s community work is really important and is something I really enjoy doing.”

Business in the Community is a charity that brings together large and small businesses across the UK, helping them to be more engaged in and responsible to the communities they operate in.

John McCall, business connector at the organisation, said: “It is brilliant for local schools such as Kirkby C of E and Northwood Primary, to be able to welcome six members of the Liverpool U18 squad in for a discussion.

“For the children to see the commitment and sacrifices of following career choices such as being a footballer, as well as hearing how the young players have stepped outside of their comfort zones, is fantastic for their future aspirations.”
