Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi enjoyed a debut to remember for loan club NEC Nijmegen as he netted a brace and provided two assists in a 5-0 win on Thursday.

The Nigerian made his bow as the Eredivisie club got in some extra match practice during the international break, taking on German sixth-tier outfit FC Kleve in a friendly fixture.

Awoniyi opened the scoring with 20 minutes gone after capitalising on an error by opposition goalkeeper Sascha Horsmann before laying on a goal for teammate Kevin Mayi.

He then rounded off a successful half by bagging his second of the game before the break.

The 19-year-old wasn't done there, either, and created yet another goal in the second half to take Peter Hyballa's team into a 4-0 lead, which was added to by Arnaut Groeneveld late on.

NEC resume their league campaign against PSV on September 10, and Awoniyi will hope his efforts have done enough to earn him a starting berth for that fixture.
