Divock Origi is setting himself ambitious targets for what he hopes will be another season of personal progress at Liverpool.

The Belgian scored 11 goals from just 21 starts in all competitions in 2016-17, one more than the 10 he struck in his debut year at Anfield.

And he is aiming to do even better this term by concentrating on simply enjoying his football.

"I've made steps and it's [up to] me to keep progressing. I feel really good so I go into the season with a lot of excitement," Origi told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I'm going to take it game by game, training session by training session, just trying to express myself and enjoy myself. When I enjoy the game, I always play good.

"I set personal targets, high targets - it's always good to be very ambitious and tough on yourself, and I think that will push me to do well."

The 22-year-old was part of the group of players who reported back to Melwood for the first time on Saturday having been given an extended break due to their international commitments.

As such, he has not yet had time to speak to Jürgen Klopp about his role this season, though he already knows what is expected from the manager.

"He always expects us to be ambitious and give our best. I haven't really spoken to him one on one but, for me, I already know what I have to do," Origi said.

"I'll just go with a lot of excitement and enjoy the game and try to take every minute I get."
