Jürgen Klopp expects Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino to be fit to face Manchester United despite the Liverpool duo’s lengthy journey back from South America earlier this week.

Coutinho and Firmino reported to Melwood on Thursday, having returned to Merseyside immediately after representing Brazil in their final World Cup qualifier against Chile in Sao Paulo on Tuesday night.

The No.10 started and played the majority of that game before being replaced by his clubmate three minutes from time.

However, Klopp told his pre-match press conference on Friday that both players are set to feature for the Reds in Saturday’s clash with their arch-rivals at Anfield.

“The club is doing everything to bring the boys back. We work really close together with other clubs in this region so we can bring all the South American players home together,” said the boss.

“That’s good. Phil played two games, Roberto played around about five minutes or something like this so it’s different of course, but they both had a long flight - even when it was pretty comfortable I’m sure.

“So, they should be OK, and they are important, yes.”
