Jordan Henderson hailed an 'important' performance and result after Liverpool earned a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening.

The Reds travelled to Yorkshire having suffered back-to-back defeats to Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion, but quickly took control of matters at the John Smith's Stadium.

Emre Can's 26th-minute drive put the visitors ahead and Roberto Firmino doubled their advantage with an intelligent finish on the stroke of half-time.

Mohamed Salah's cool penalty subsequently sealed the result in the second period - and left the captain delighted with the efforts of his colleagues.

"It was important for us after the last two results and performances that, obviously, we weren't happy with," Henderson told BT Sport.

"It was a tough game coming here, we knew that, but an important one for us.

"I knew if we did the things we've been doing well for the majority of the season then we'd come here here and put on a good performance and we managed to do that."

Henderson was also asked if he felt the timing of Firmino's strike proved crucial to the end result, but the No.14 highlighted another factor of the performance as vital.

He added: "That was an important goal for us just at half-time but the biggest key for us tonight was patience.

"We knew that they were going to frustrate us, or try to, so [we had to] keep the ball, keep it moving quickly, and when we feel as though it's the right time go and penetrate the line. We did that brilliantly at times.

"I still think the last 10-15 minutes we can keep going and do better but overall I thought the lads were brilliant from start to finish and a clean sheet is big for us as well."

Meanwhile, goalscorer Can revealed that he was expecting before the game that he would have to take on the sort of long-distance effort from which he opened the scoring.

He said: "I'm happy that I could help the team. We spoke about it before the game, [they would be] deep and you have to shoot sometimes and there I was lucky."
