Liverpool are growing increasingly confident of landing Southampton forward Sadio Mane this summer, sources have told ESPN FC.

Liverpool have been locked in discussions with Southampton for some time as they look to try and thrash out a deal for the Senegal international and sources have told ESPN FC the Anfield outfit are optimistic of agreeing a deal with their Premier League rivals.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has identified Mane as one of his top targets as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.

Mane impressed Klopp during the two Premier League meetings between the two sides when he scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Anfield and then netted twice to inspire a come from behind 3-2 victory at St Mary's in March.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City have been linked with Mane, but Liverpool are determined to win the race for the 24-year-old.

Southampton are reluctant to lose Mane, but accept it will be hard to turn a bid in the region of £30 million having signed him for £11.8m from Red Bull Salzburg in 2014.

Liverpool have raided Southampton for the likes of Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Nathaniel Clyne in the last two summers and it appears Mane is likely to follow that path by swapping Southampton for Anfield.
