Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been ruled out of his side's Monday Night Football clash with Leicester City, according to Sky sources.

Henderson is not expected to travel with the rest of his teammates to the King Power Stadium after sustaining a badly bruised foot in a training session at the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp had hoped to have his captain available to face the Foxes but the 26-year-old midfielder has been forced out of the game after failing to recover in time.

Henderson has only recently returned from a heel injury that kept him out of games over the festive period.

The Reds will be targeting a victory against a struggling Leicester side as they continue their push for a Champions League place.

Klopp's men trail fourth-place Arsenal by just a point heading into Monday night's fixture, which will be shown live on Sky Sports 1 HD.

Dejan Lovren is also expected to miss the match with a knee problem while Daniel Sturridge is yet to fully recover from a virus which caused him to leave the club's warm-weather training camp in Spain earlier this month.

Liverpool will move up to third in the Premier League table if they win on Monday night, while Leicester are hoping to end a run of five consecutive defeats in the league.

The Foxes parted ways with Claudio Ranieri on Thursday afternoon, leaving caretaker-manager Craig Shakespeare in charge for the visit of Liverpool.
