Liverpool will persist with negotiations for Mohamed Salah as they look to thrash out a deal for the Roma winger.

The Egyptian is high on the Reds’ list of targets this summer, as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

Liverpool had a £28m bid rejected by the Serie A club earlier this month, with Roma understood to be looking to demand closer to £40m for one of their prized assets.

And though talks so far have yet to reach a compromise, Liverpool remain keen on bringing the 24-year-old to Merseyside.

Roma, for their part, are reluctant to part with their star man. Salah scored 19 goals in all competitions this season having completed a £12m permanent switch from Chelsea last summer, emerging as a key figure for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

The player is, however, believed to be keen on the idea of moving to the Premier League, who were close to signing him back in January 2014 before his underwhelming switch to Chelsea.

The Reds have also held talks with Sporting Lisbon over their 22-year-old wideman Gelson Martins, and have interest in Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa, but Salah remains their preferred choice.
